1997/1998, acrylic on canvas, 24x48 inches

When I began this painting in the summer of 1997, I had not painted on canvas since 1983 when I stopped painting in oils. There was a lot of struggle in this painting as I discovered things about acrylics that I knew nothing of in the 1980's when I was in college. Discovering gloss medium was quite a revelation all of its own. At one point I had considered it finished, only to pick up the brush again and rework it considerably for the better. As I rephotographed the painting recently, I felt a need to try and do more with her hands. As time permits, I will attempt to do so.
